All Residents Aged 18 Can Register for COVID Vaccine

發佈於 2021-07-13 13:26:03

All Taiwan residents aged 18 and over can now register to receive their first COVID-19 jab.

Registration opened at 10 a.m. today and will remain open until 5 p.m. on July 15.

Residents can choose if they wish to receive the AstraZeneca or Moderna vaccine.

You can apply by visiting the 1992.gov.tw website and using a confirmation code generated (產生) by the National Health Insurance app.

A seperate registration system also went online today for those in category 9 of the government's vaccine priority list.

Category 9 includes people aged 19-64 who suffer from conditions that put them at a higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19, and others at risk due to rare or serious illnesses.

 Positive Test Post-Quarantine

發佈於 2021-07-13 13:26:03

A few people are still testing positive for COVID-19 after multiple negative tests.

Starting from last month, all incoming travelers have been required to undergo quick-screening tests upon arrival, and a PCR test upon completion of their quarantine.

The Central Epidemic Command Center says it has found 18 cases of people with especially high viral loads, who initially tested negative, and then positive in subsequent (隨後的) tests during quarantine.

The CECC says this proves the usefulness of multiple tests in avoiding community infection.

75 Percent of A Mart Staff Vaccinated

發佈於 2021-07-13 13:26:04

Hypermarket chain A Mart said 75 percent of its cashiers have received their first COVID-19 vaccine.

A representative of the chain today said it hopes 90 percent of cashiers can be vaccinated by the end of this week.

And French supermarket chain Carrefour said 40 percent of its front-line workers have been vaccinated as of today.

But Carrefour said its vaccination rate has slowed as it waits for the central government to distribute (分發、分配) out more vaccines.

Checkout staff were added into category seven of Taiwan's vaccination priority list. Both hypermarket chains began arranging for staff to be vaccinated on July 9.

 Cuba Cracks Down on Protests

發佈於 2021-07-13 13:26:04

Cuban police are out in force as the president is accusing Cuban Americans of using social media to spur (刺激、帶動) a rare outpouring of weekend protests over high prices and food shortages.

More than a dozen protesters were detained, including a leading Cuban dissident who was arrested trying to attend a march in the city of Santiago.

The demonstrators disrupted traffic in the capital for several hours until some threw rocks and police moved in and broke them up.

President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Monday accused Cuban Americans of using social medial to create ``dissatisfaction by manipulating emotions and feelings'' of Cubans.

And turning briefly to business news...

China's exports surged in June while import growth slowed to a still-robust level as its economic rebound from the coronavirus leveled off (平穩、保持穩定(不再波動)).

Customs data show exports rose 32% to $281.4 billion, up from May's 28% growth.

Imports increased 37% to $229.9 billion, but that was down from the previous month's explosive 51% rise.
