Premier Backs '3 4' Proposal to Shorten Home Isolation

發佈於 2022-04-25 15:51:13

Cabinet spokesman Luo Bing-cheng says Premier Su Tseng-chang has agreed in principle (原則上同意) to support a "3 4" proposal to shorten the home isolation period for people exposed to individuals who have tested positive for the coronavirus.

However, Luo says the policy will have to be coordinated with (配合) local governments before it can be implemented (實施).

The central and local officials will have a meeting later today to discuss the issues.

The statement follows reports that Su is backing a proposal to require people identified as contacts (接觸者) of positive patients to isolate at home for three days.

Such contacts will take a coronavirus rapid test on the fourth day and be allowed to leave isolation if the results are negative.

However, they will still be banned from eating in restaurants or attending large-scale events for an additional four days.

 Green fences in Shanghai

發佈於 2022-04-25 15:51:13

Authorities battling Shanghai's latest Covid outbreak have installed fences (裝設圍籬) to restrict the population's movement.

Green barriers have appeared without warning outside buildings where those inside are forbidden from leaving.

One resident said a green fence appeared inside his locked-up compound (已經被鎖起來的街區) three days ago without any explanation.

For weeks Shanghai's 25 million-strong population has been shut in their homes while officials try to contain (遏止) the city's worst Covid surge to date.

Images of workers in white hazmat suits (從頭到腳保護裝束) sealing entrances to the city's housing blocks and closing off streets with green fencing have spread in recent days on Chinese social media.

Many of the fences, which are around two-metres tall, were installed around buildings designated as "sealed areas 封鎖區" where at least one person has tested positive for Covid-19.

Nicaragua says it is closing OAS offices, expelling staff

發佈於 2022-04-25 15:51:14

The Nicaraguan government says it is closing the Nicaragua offices of the Organization of the American States (美洲國家組織) and expelling (驅逐) the staff.

Sunday's announcement comes after the government of President Daniel Ortega suffered the humilliating criticism of his country's own ambassador to the OAS.

Ortega was elected to a fourth consecutive term in Nov. 7 elections that were broadly criticized as a farce.

Seven likely challengers to Ortega were arrested and jailed in the months prior to the election.

The OAS General Assembly has voted to condemn the elections, saying they ``were not free, fair or transparent, and lack democratic legitimacy (不符合民主合法性).''
