MOTC Approves Taichung Metro's Proposed Blue Line

The Ministry of Transport has approved plans to build the Taichung Metro's proposed Blue Line.

According to the ministry, the new line will cost 161-billion N-T, of which the central government has agreed to provide 67-billion in funding (經費).

The Blue Line will begin at the Port of Taichung and will move eastward through Shalu and Xitun districts before arriving in central Taichung.

It will take an estimated (估計) 10 years before it is opened to the public.

Six Indicted over Deadly Pingtung Golf Ball Factory Fire

The Pingtung District Prosecutors' Office has indicted (起訴) six people on charges of negligent homicide (過失殺人) over the deaths of 10 people during a fire at a golf ball factory in September of last year.

According to the prosecutors' office, those indicted include Launch Technologies (明陽) chairman and general manager.

Launch Technologies has already been fined (罰款) 2.4-million N-T for failing to fully disclose (揭露) that nearly 3,000-kilograms of organic peroxide (有機過氧化物) was being stored illegally at the complex.

The company has also been found guilty of failing to assign a person to the site to assist the fire commander.

Four firefighters and six employees were killed in the fire.

UN Palestinians Aid Agency Facing More Funding Cuts

The United Nations aid agency serving Palestinians in Gaza is facing more funding cuts.

The cuts come amid accusations (指控) that 12 of its employees were involved in Hamas' October 7 attack that sparked Israel's operations in Gaza.

An Israeli document details claims that U-N teachers and a social worker employed by the agency were with Hamas fighters and helped to take hostages (綁架人質) or coordinate weapons' transfers (武器運送).

The allegations have triggered a wave of funding cuts by major donors including the U-S, Britain and France.

Austria has also now announced that its suspending (暫停) assistance.

Italy Unveils Development Plan for Africa

Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni has unveiled (宣布) her government's development plan for Africa at a summit of African leaders.

Italy is hoping the plan will help stem (阻攔) migration numbers, diversify energy sources and forge (打造) a new relationship between Europe and the continent.

Two dozen African leaders, top European Union and United Nations officials and representatives from international lending institutions (國際貸款機構) are in Rome for the summit.

Italy says the development plan will create security and economic conditions that will create jobs in Africa and discourage Africans from making dangerous migrations across the Mediterranean Sea.
