Tai-Ex opening
發布於 2024-08-08 10:34:12
The Tai-Ex opened down 248-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 21,047 on turnover of 5.9-billion N-T.

The market recorded its largest closing gains in history on Wednesday - after surging nearly 800-points.

The rise was led by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing.

This comes after its American depositary receipts spiked overnight as Wall Street staged a rebound.

However, Wall Street fell overnight.

Those losses weren't as bad as those that wracked (摧殘,折磨) markets worldwide earlier this week.

But market watchers say the downturn in U-S indexes still spooked investors here in Taiwan.

Environmental groups have announced the establishment of coalition to lobby the National Climate Change Response Committee.

The coalition is being led by groups including the Taiwan Renewable Energy Alliance, the Wild at Heart Legal Defense Association, and the Taiwan Citizen Participation Association.

According to those groups, the coalition has been formed due to concerns that industry might seek to obscure (遮蔽;使不分明) the government's climate policy.

The National Climate Change Response Committee was formed in June by President Lai Ching-te and is holding its inaugural meeting today.

Today's meeting is expected to focus on the impact of climate change on the world and Taiwan, and the challenge of Taiwan's power supply and demand.

Bangladesh Interim Leader Appeals for Calm
發布於 2024-08-08 10:34:39
Bangladesh’s incoming interim leader Muhammad Yunus has appealed for calm and urged all parties to help the country rebuild.

This comes after weeks of violence that killed hundreds of people and prompted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign and flee (逃跑) to India.

Yunus, a Nobel peace laureate, was in Paris for the Olympics when he was named interim leader following talks among military officials and student activists who led the uprising against a prime minister seen as increasingly autocratic.

Yunus on Wednesday boarded a plane to return home.

Bangladesh’s military chief said that an interim government headed by Yunus would be sworn in Thursday night.
