- European Lawmakers Urge WHO to Invite Taiwan as Observer
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is expressing its thanks to members of the
Formosa Club for urging the World Health Organization to invite Taiwan to
attend the upcoming World Health Assembly.
The Formosa Club was launched in October of 2019 by Taiwan Friendship Groups
from European Parliament, France, Germany and U-K.
According to the foreign ministry, 1,084 incumbent and former European
lawmakers sent the letter to the W-H-O's director-general calling on him to
allow Taiwan to attend the global health body's decision-making arm as an

The letter touted Taiwan's performance in managing the coronavirus pandemic
and its offering assistance to more than 80 countries in need to help them
tackle (對付，處理；與…交涉) the disease.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Union High
Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell were
among those who signed the letter in Brussels.

- Myanmar to Release Japanese Journalist
Myanmar's ruling junta says that as a gesture of friendship with Tokyo, it
will free a Japanese freelance journalist who was jailed and charged with
spreading false news or information that could cause public unrest.
The announcement on Myanmar's army-run television channel said Yuki Kitazumi
had been arrested on April 18 for ``inciting'' the country's anti-military
civil disobedience (非暴力反抗；不合作主義) movement and riots.
