Taiwan Crucial Partner in EU's Indo-Pacific Strategy: Trade Official
A senior European Union trade official said Thursday that Taiwan is crucial
to the EU in its new Indo-Pacific strategy.

Sabine Weyand said in a virtual keynote address at the annual EU Investment
Forum that the world is now facing "unprecedented challenges" due to climate
change and digital transformation.

Weyand added that Taiwan and the EU share similar democratic values and close
economic and trade relations.
She said the EU should start preliminary talks soon with Taiwan on a
bilateral investment agreement.
NKorea Fires Unidentified Projectile
South Korea's military says North Korea has fired an unidentified projectile
to its eastern waters.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff today did not immediately say what the
North fired or how far the weapon flew.
Nuclear negotiations between Washington and Pyongyang have stalled for more
than two years over disagreements in exchanging the release of crippling
U.S.-led sanctions against North Korea and the North's denuclearization

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has vowed to strengthen his nuclear deterrent
(威懾) since his diplomatic fallout with then-President Donald Trump.
The north has been ramping up its weapons tests since September while making
conditional peace offers to Seoul, reviving a pattern of pressuring South
Korea to get what it wants from the United States.
