President Tsai Ing-wen has told C-N-N that the threat from Beijing is growing
"every day" and, for the first time, has also confirmed the presence of
American troops in Taiwan (證實有美軍在臺).
Speaking with C-N-N's Will Ripley in an exclusive interview, Tsai described
the island as a "beacon" (燈塔) of democracy that needs to be defended to
"uphold (維護) faith worldwide in democratic values."

- UK Lawmakers Question FB on Online Safety
British lawmakers have grilled Facebook and other tech giants over how they
handle online safety.
The questioning comes as the European Union efforts to regulate social media companies
gain momentum (動量、動力).
Facebook's head of safety said Thursday that the tech giant supports
regulation and has no business interest in providing people with an ``unsafe
Representatives from YouTube, Google, Twitter and TikTok were also questioned
by members of a parliamentary committee scrutinizing the British government's
draft online safety legislation.
A U.S. Senate panel also questioned YouTube, TikTok and Snapchat this week.
