The Tai-Ex opened up 99-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 15,806 on turnover of $5.9-billion N-T.
The Tai-Ex followed other regional markets and lost ground on Thursday - closing down 65-points, as investors paused ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
The slight move into negative territory and modest turnover comes as the main board traditionally sees thin trading prior to (在先的，在前的；居先的) the new year holiday period, as investors seek to reduce their risks.
The Food and Drug Administration says it will begin regulating the amount of permitted GEs in certain food products manufactured for infants and young children beginning July 1 amid concerns the substance could be carcinogenic in humans.
According to the F-D-A, GEs are food contaminants (致汙物，污染物) found in edible oils that form during the refining process and can turn into the compound glycidol when ingested by humans.
The F-D-A says it began to consider regulating GEs in 2018 and has now decided to first set standards for infant formula, follow-up infant formula, and foods for special medical purposes intended for infants and young children.
Under the new regulations, powdered products in the above categories cannot contain more than 50-microgram of GEs per kilogram, while liquid products are limited to 6-microgram of GEs.
The US House of Representatives has voted to strip Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene of her committee assignments.

The U.N. Security Council is strongly backing a return to democracy in Myanmar and calling for the immediate release of Aung San Suu Kyi and all those arbitrarily detained by the military.
In its first statement on the military's ouster of the government, the U.N.'s most powerful body ``stressed the need to uphold democratic institutions and processes, refrain from (避免) violence, and fully respect human rights, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law.''
The council encouraged ``dialogue and reconciliation`` and expressed concern at ``restrictions on civil society, journalists and media workers.''
