A personal computer belonging to a government employee has been found to be infected with cryptocurrency mining malware.

The government agency involved has not been named, but the Department of  Cyber Security says it was immediately disconnected from the network at which the individual works.

A subsequent investigation found that the employee was unaware of the cryptojacking.

According to cyber security officials, the government network to which the computer was connected was not compromised in any way.
