Huannan Market Planning To Reopen Tomorrow

發佈於 2021-07-05 14:13:04

Huannan Market is planning to reopen tomorrow.

After a cluster infection (群聚染疫) was discovered among 3 large wet markets last week, Huannan Market was closed down for 3 days to prevent further spread and to undergo thorough testing.

CECC officials say, the markets have completed their first round of testing, having found a total of 229 positive cases, and another round of testing is scheduled for Thursday.

Officials say it is difficult to allocate employees to control market entrances and exits, so visitors will be required to present a negative PCR test before entering, and one quick-screening station will remain in the market itself.

They add that Huannan Market will be required to implement markers to direct the flow of traffic, and market workers will be required to wear face masks and face shields.

Taichung Gas Leak Caused by Loose Screw

發佈於 2021-07-05 14:13:04

Officials have determined that a loose screw (螺絲鬆動) caused a natural gas leak (漏氣) in Taichung City last night.

The leak was reported at an intersection in Da-ya District in the early evening yesterday, and a six-inch high-pressure gas pipe was confirmed to be faulty.

The concentration of natural gas in the area reached 10-thousand parts-per-million at one point, and emergency crews cordoned off the area and sprayed water for safety.

CPC Corporation, which operates the pipeline, says a loose screw was responsible for causing the leak, and all necessary checks and repaires have been completed.

Suez Canal says deal reached to free seized vessel

發佈於 2021-07-05 14:13:04

The Suez Canal Authority (蘇伊士運河管理局) says it has reached an agreement to settle a financial dispute with the owners of a hulking container ship that blocked the crucial waterway for nearly a week earlier this year.

The authority did not reveal details on the settlement deal with the Shoei Kisen Kaisha Ltd., the Japanese owner of the Ever Given.

It says the deal will be signed in a ceremony in the Suez Canal city of Ismailia.

The vessel had run aground in the canal on March 23rd before it was extracted six days later.

It has since been held as the canal and the vessel's owners have negotiated a settlement.

Tropical Storm Elsa headed to landfall on central Cuba coast

發佈於 2021-07-05 14:13:05

Tropical Storm Elsa is sweeping along Cuba's southern coast, and forecasters expect it to make landfall on the island's central shore by midafternoon today.

Cuban officials evacuated (撤離) 180,000 people to prepare for the possibility of heavy flooding.

The storm has already battered several Caribbean islands, killing at least three people.

Elsa is forecast to cross over Cuba by Monday night, and then head for the U.S. state of Florida, where a state of emergency has been declared in 15 counties.

Forecasters say the storm will weaken while crossing over Cuba, but is likely to strengthen slightly as it moves toward Florida.

Elsa was the Atlantic season's first hurricane, before it weakened into a tropical storm.

Chinese astronauts make first spacewalk outside new station

發佈於 2021-07-05 14:13:05

Two astronauts have made the first spacewalk outside China's new orbital station (太空軌道站) using a 50-foot robot arm to install cameras and other equipment.

State TV showed astronauts Liu Boming and Tang Hongbo climbing out of an airlock as Earth rolled past below them.

The Chinese space agency said the two spent nearly seven hours outside the station, and the third crew member stayed inside.

The astronauts arrived June 17 for a three-month mission aboard China's third orbital station, part of an ambitious space program that landed a robot rover on Mars in May.
