The Tai-Ex opened down 95-points this morning from yesterday's close, at
15,975 on turnover of 4.4-billion N-T.

The market came under heavy pressure on Monday after a higher-than-expected
rise in the U-S consumer price index for May saw Wall Street tumble at the
end of last week.

The bellwether electronics sector led the downturn, but selling was also seen
among old economy and financial stocks throughout the session, putting
additional (額外的) pressure on the local main board.

A visiting Lithuanian delegation has held talks with Deputy Science Minister
Lin Min-tsong.

The delegation is being led by the country's Vice Economy and Innovation
Minister and is in Taiwan for a four-day visit.

According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, the talks focused on
advanced technologies, talent development in the high-tech sector and tech
startups.

The ministry says no specific agreements were reached during the meeting, but
the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute plans to collaborate (合作) with
Lithuania on semiconductor talent cultivation.

Lithuania is also looking to expand exchanges with Taiwan in the fields of
semiconductors, laser technology and genetic science.

The Presidential Office has named Zhuang Shuo-hang as Taiwan's new
representative to Thailand.

Zhuang currently serves as the chairman of the Taipei World Trade Center and
the vice chairman of the External Trade Development Council.

According to the Presidential Office, Zhuang will head the Taipei Economic
and Cultural Office in Bangkok.

Zhaung has previously served as Cabinet spokesman, deputy minister of
Overseas Compatriot Affairs Council, and a one-term lawmaker, from 2005 to
2008.

The post of Taiwan's representative to Thailand has been vacant since August
of last year, when incumbent (現任) representative, Lee Ying-yuan, fell ill
and resigned.

Lee passed away in November at the age of 68.

The Presidential Office has also named Deputy Foreign Minister Harry Tseng as
Taiwan's new representative to Canada.

Congo's military is accusing Rwanda of ``no less than an invasion'' after a
rebel group captured a key town in eastern Congo.

The military confirmed late Monday that Bunagana had fallen into rebel hands
earlier in the morning.

Rwanda, however, has repeatedly denied that it backs the M23 rebel group.

Bunagana is only 60 kilometers northeast of Goma, a city of nearly 2 million
people that also serves as a hub for trade, international aid organizations
and the U.N. peacekeeping mission.
Relations between Rwanda and Congo have been fraught (焦慮的) for decades.

Rwanda alleges that Congo gave refuge to the ethnic Hutus who carried out the
1994 Rwandan genocide.
