PX Mart Branches Could Serve as Vaccination Venues

Central Epidemic Command Center spokesman Zhuang Ren-xiang says the government is considering setting up vaccine sites at branches of the P-X Mart supermarket chain to try and boost vaccine coverage.
Zhuang says the company reached out to health authorities to offer the program and will provide a list of 174 outlets (門市) that the government can use to set up vaccination sites.
However, the spokesman says local health authorities will need to first review the sites to ensure they are suitable.
Figures show that 78-per cent of the population has so far received at least one coronavirus vaccine dose, while 57.8-per cent, have received two doses.
Court Detains Suspect in DPP Lawmaker Hotel Room Attack

The New Taipei District Court has ordered the suspect in the alleged beating of D-P-P lawmaker Gao Jia-yu to be detained pending further investigation.
Police arrested Lin Bing-shu earlier this week.
The New Taipei Prosecutors' Office filed a detention request citing possible criminal offenses that include causing injury, unlawful imprisonment, and breaching (違反) of personal privacy.
Prosecutors also voiced concerns that the suspect posed a flight risk.
Lin was Gao's boyfriend at the time of the alleged assault and reports say he physically assaulted her over a two-day period at hotel in New Taipei's Banqiao District.
Mercury Forecast to Drop for Coming Couple of Days

The Central Weather Bureau says the continental cold air mass currently affecting Taiwan will likely see the mercury dropping to as low as 10-degrees in some parts of the island today and tomorrow.
The low is forecast low-lying open areas in the early morning and overnight.
However, the weather bureau says temperatures are expected to rebound (回升，反彈) during the daytime and hit highs of 20-degrees in the north and between 23 and 25-degrees in the center and south.
Another cold front is forecast to begin affecting Taiwan from next Tuesday and that could see temperatures dropping by between 1 and 2-degrees from this coming weekend's highs.

Health officials say multiple cases of the omicron coronavirus variant have been detected in New York,
These include a man who took part in a November convention, and who tested positive when he went home to Minnesota.
Five others who tested positive included someone who had recently traveled to South Africa.
This comes just a day after the U-S says its first case of the variant was detected (檢測到) in California.
IOC Claims Second Call with Peng Shuai

The International Olympic Committee says it has held a second video call with Peng Shuai.
But the I-O-C didn't release any video or transcript nor did the group make any reference to (提到) the tennis player's sexual assault allegation against a former Chinese government official.
According to the I-O-C, the second video call with Peng took place after I-O-C President Thomas Bach's recent statement that he spoke with her and she appeared to be "doing fine."
