The Tai-Ex opened up 48-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 17,845 on turnover of 6.1-billion N-T.
The market gained ground on Tuesday, as investors opted to shift to the buy side to help the main board recoup early losses.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing got a boost from late-session buying, but other semiconductor heavyweights suffered losses throughout the session, as investors took cues (線索、提示) from declines on the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index overnight.
Government Yet to decide on Beijing Winter Olympics Boycott

The government has yet to make a decision on whether to follow the U-S' lead and undertake a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
According to the foreign ministry, the government "understands and respects" the Biden administration's announcement that it won't be sending a diplomatic team to China due to Beijing's human rights "atrocities (暴行)."
However, the ministry says the government is continuing to monitor the situation and an "appropriate response" will be made following a cross-ministerial meeting.
Eight Taiwanese athletes were currently trying to qualify for the Winter Olympics.
Lawmaker Pass Amendments on Reportable Traffic Offenses

Lawmakers have passed amendments to the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act aimed at reducing the number of traffic violations that can be reported to police by the public.
Under the amendments, the number of types of violations that can be reported to police has been reduced to 46.
The revisions were made after police complained of being inundated by traffic violation reports from regular citizens.
Th current Act stipulates that members of the general public can submit (提交) factual accounts, evidence, and information regarding any traffic violation to the authorities.
However, figures show that the volume of reports has soared in recent years, rising from 1.5-million in 2016 to 5.9-million last year.
Mexico Fireworks Explosion

Authorities in Mexico city say an illegal fireworks workshop blew up east of Mexico City, killing two children and four adults and injuring an undetermined (未定) number of people.
The health secretary for the state of Puebla says the deaths occurred late Monday in the hamlet of Santiago Tenango. It is unclear if the structure was a workshop for making fireworks or a store selling them.
Officials say the business was illegal and unregistered.
Such accidents happen regularly in central Mexico around the Sept. 15 Independence Day and Christmas holidays, when production and sale of fireworks increases.

Carmaker Stellantis has announced a strategy to embed AI-enabled software in 34 million vehicles across its 14 brands.
It hopes the tech upgrade will help it bring in 20 billion euros in annual revenue by 2030.
CEO Carlos Tavares heralded the move as part of a strategy that would transform the car company into a ``sustainable mobility tech company,'' with business growth coming from tied to the internet.
The company is expanding key partnerships with BMW on partially automated driving, iPhone manufacturer Foxconn on customized (定制、為某人特製的) cockpits and Waymo to push autonomous driving work into light commercial vehicle delivery fleets.
