Tai-Ex opening

The Tai-Ex opened up 16-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 17,805 on turnover of 2.9-billion N-T.
The market closed sharply higher on Tuesday as the bellwether electronics sector bounced back from the previous session.
Analysts say investors opted to ignore volatility (波動) on Wall Street overnight triggered by rising concerns over the Omicron coronavirus variant and old economy stocks also received a boost (利多) after lawmakers voted to extend a day trading transaction tax (當沖證交稅) cut to the end of 2024.
CECC Stepping-Up Quarantine Hotel Coronavirus Prevention Measures

The Central Epidemic Command Center is now taking steps to enhance (提升) coronavirus prevention measures at quarantine hotels (防疫旅館) islandwide.
The move comes after coronavirus cluster infections were reported at quarantine hotels in Taipei and Taoyuan last week.
Epidemic command center spokesman Zhuang Ren-xiang says the measures include a cluster infection detection (監測) and response mechanism (回報機制), which is aimed at better detecting such infections and allowing for a speedier (更快的) response to contain any possible outbreaks.
According to Zhuang, the center is also amending its control and prevention guidelines for the management of quarantine hotels and local governments are also being asked to carry out (執行) full inspections of the hotels on a monthly basis.
CPC Inks Oilfield Deal in Somaliland

C-P-C has signed an agreement with Genel Energy for a stake in an oilfield exploration (油田探勘) project in Somaliland.
The agreement has been approved by the Somaliland government.
According to the state-refiner, it has secured a 49-per cent working interest (工作權益) in a block (礦區) located some 150-kilometers from the de facto sovereign state's (實質主權國家的) main port of Berbera.
C-P-C is not disclosing (揭露) any financial terms about the deal.
However, spokesman Zhang Rei-chong says it's the biggest oilfield exploration deal C-P-C has signed in terms of "prospective resources."
C-P-C says it will be working jointly with Genel Energy and it's hoped that a well can be drilled in the area sometime in 2023.
Putin blames West for tensions, demands security guarantees

Turning to world news...
The Russian president has reiterated the demand for guarantees from the U.S. and its allies that NATO (北大西洋公約組織) will not expand eastward (向東擴張).
He also blames the West for "tensions that are building up in Europe.''
Vladimir Putin's speech at a meeting with Russia's top military brass (高階軍事將領) came just days after Moscow submitted (提交) draft security documents demanding that NATO deny membership to Ukraine and other former Soviet countries.
Putin is also demanding that NATO roll back (撤離或是減少) the alliance's military deployments in Central and Eastern Europe.
He says the Kremlin needs "long-term, legally binding guarantees (有法律效力的保證)'' from the West, as opposed to "verbal assurances, words and promises'' that it can't trust.
A top U.S. official has said bilateral meetings between the U.S. and Russia will likely take place in January.

US markets have rallied following three days of losses.
It comes after President Joe Biden announced new measures to try to stop the spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
