Tai-Ex opening

The Tai-Ex opened up 50-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 18,099 on turnover of 3.6-billion N-T.
The market gained ground on Monday to close above the 18,000 point mark and hit a historic closing high of 18,048.
Analysts say solid investor interest in the bellwether electronics sector throughout the session pushed-up the main board.
However, turnover remained thin due to the absence (缺席、不在) of many foreign institutional investors, who have been away from the trading floor for the holiday.
DPP's Lin Pledges Not to Run for Mayor of Hsinchu Municipality

Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Zhi-jian says he will not run for mayor of greater Hsinchu in 2022.
The statement comes as it's likely that Hsinchu City and Hsinchu County will soon be merged and re-designation as a special municipality.
Lin says he opted not to run in next year's local elections in order to stop political maneuvering (政治操縱) by opposition parties and to help accelerate the passing of an amendment to allow for the establishment of the new special municipality.
His decision has been approved by President Tsai Ing-wen and Premier Su Tseng-chang.
Lin has been mayor of Hsinchu since 2014, and his second term ends in December of next year.
Kaohsiung DUI Suspect Ordered Detained

The Kaohsiung District Court has ordered the suspect in a drunk driving incident that left one person dead and three others injured to be detained (被拘留).
Police arrested the man after his vehicle struck a family of four on a pedestrian crossing in the city's Qian-Jin District on Sunday evening.
A 37-year-old woman died at the scene, while her husband and two teenage daughters suffered serious injuries.
They remain hospitalized in an intensive care unit.
A breathalyzer test found the suspect's blood alcohol level to be five times over the legal limit.
According to police, the suspect has two prior D-U-Is from 2006 and 2009.
Lebanon President Calls for End to Gov Deadlock

Lebanon's president has called for an end to an 11-week deadlock that has prevented the government from convening, further undermining state institutions in the country amid an economic meltdown.
President Michel Aoun implicitly blamed his powerful ally Hezbollah for preventing the government from convening but didn't name the Shiite group in his Monday speech.
Aoun also listed a litany (一連串的) of other obstructions that have derailed necessary legislation and reforms, criticizing his longtime rival Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri but also without naming him.
The government of Prime Minister Najib Mikati has not been able to meet since Oct. 12 after Hezbollah and allies demanded the removal of the lead judge investigating the massive explosion at the Beirut port last year.
US Trucker Hearing for Resentencing
