Constitutional Enshrinement of Animal Protection Gets Opposition Support

Opposition party leaders are joining advocacy groups in supporting calls to enshrined (莊嚴載入、銘記) animal rights in the Constitution by pushing for a constitutional amendment.
K-M-T Chairman Eric Chu says his party has adopted a policy protecting animals and their rights in its charter and that issue of animal protection transcended (超越) party lines and requires the efforts of all members of society.
While New Power Party Chairwoman, Chen Jiao-hua says legislation is essential for improving animal protection, and President Tsai Ing-wen as well as the D-P-P need to commit to promoting the inclusion of animal protection in the Constitution.
According to the Animal Protection Legislation Movement Alliance, although the Animal Protection Act has been in effect for over two decades, it has proven insufficient (不夠、不足) in protecting animals and preventing cruelty cases.

Russia and Belarus to Hold Joint War Games Next Year

Russian President Vladimir Putin says that Russia and Belarus will hold joint war games early next year.
Putin welcomed Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's proposal to hold another round of military drills, and says they could be held in February or March.
He was speaking during Wednesday's meeting with Lukashenko in St. Petersburg.
Putin added that military officials will coordinate (協調) details.
Putin's announcement comes amid a Russian troop buildup near Ukraine that raised Western fears of an invasion.
Some officials in Ukraine have voiced concern that Russia could also use Belarusian territory to attack the country.
Russia has denied an intention to launch an offensive, but urged the U.S. and its allies to provide guarantees that NATO doesn't expand to Ukraine.
Mexico More Cracks Found on Elevated Subway Line

Officials in Mexico say inspectors have found 21 more cracks in welds or steel structural pieces on a Mexico City elevated subway line that had a section collapse in May, killing 26 people.
Studies on the fallen section found the failure was caused by construction defects (缺陷) like poor welds and missing connection studs as well as bad design.
The newly discovered cracks reported Wednesday are on other parts of the line that didn't collapse.
Outside inspectors have been invited in as part of efforts to re-open and reinforce the line.
